Andreas Hellander is Associate Professor in Scientific Computing at Uppsala University, leader of the Integrative Scalable Computing Laboratory, and co-fouder of Scaleout. He has pioneered stochastic simulation methodology in systems biology, and was an early leader of cloud computing infrastructure strategy development in Sweden and the Nordics. His current research centers on development of scalable, machine learning assisted scientific computing methodology to investigate complex, high-dimensional natural systems. Another current focus area is federated machine learning. A central goal of this work is to make privacy-preserving ML operational at scale, a multifaceted problem that lets him combine his passion for distributed systems research, scientific software development and scientific computing. With a background in molecular biotechnology, scientific applications and industrial collaborators are often found in the life science area.
